It's not about "private", but that this shouldn't be stored in OSM. In the "Map data" button on the right below layers, you can upload or link to a GeoJSON etc "custom map data" file. I believe the signs are insufficient. They are simply commonplace wayfinding signs found everywhere else. I don't remember if there are any maps.

Again, the problem is you are mixing different domains together. Urban is not the same as hiking. That's an exception. It's not the intention, and would not work for every urban walking corridor that's "shared common knowledge" to be a `=route` , which would simply be arbitary.
